PUBG Mobile 4.2 Update: What’s new and how to download

Following the highly successful and widely praised 4.1 update, PUBG Mobile has rolled out the brand-new 4.2 Beta version. Similar to the previous release, this update introduces a range of exciting new features designed to make gameplay even more engaging. This time, the update centers around the theme of Nature, with the wilderness transforming the battlegrounds after radioactive alien material crashes into Pochinki from the sky.

Due to the material’s radioactivity, all the plants and vegetation across Erangel have rapidly grown and mutated into massive trees and sprawling roots. A colossal overgrown tree has also risen from the ground, now visible from every corner of the map.

Alongside these changes, the game introduces a wide range of new features and powers. In this article, I’ll walk you through the full PUBG Mobile Beta 4.2 update, covering all the new features, abilities, and other important additions.

PUBG Mobile Beta Version 4.2 Update: All brand-new features explained

Pochinki is once again becomes the ultimate Hot-drop

In this update, there are only two pre-determined hot-drop locations: Pochinki, the heart of Erangel, and the city of Yasnaya Polyana. Unlike previous events, there aren’t many new structures or buildings. Instead, existing houses and landmarks are overtaken by massive overgrown roots, with giant trees erupting from the ground.

With this structural change, players may once again experience the old days of dropping into Pochinki purely for intense gunfights. That classic vibe had been lost amid the corners and alleys of the concrete-heavy event hot drops. However, it remains unclear whether previous hot-drop features—such as auto-recalls and abundant loot—will return.

Beyond the usual content, the update will introduce a wide range of new items and features inspired by nature and forestry. Players will also gain access to multiple superpowers that can be used on the battlegrounds for a strategic edge. More details are expected in the coming days, as PUBG Mobile is set to release two to three additional beta updates—so stay tuned.

New AI Companion – Groot

As of now, players have really liked the concept of the AI companion in PUBG Mobile. In the 4.1 version update, we had the AI Ninja Penguin Pownin. It was a very interactive and funny in-game mate that used to keep the players engaged with its jokes and witty replies. This time, we are going to meet the successor of it – Groot. Since we are at an early stage, all the features of Groot are yet to be available.

However, you will see the Lumina Plant Seeds scattered on the map. You can pick only one seed in a match. After picking up, go to a good location and plant the seed. Now comes the interesting part: you can only get the fruit from the plant on the 3rd match that you will play. Suppose you plant the seed in match 1, you will have to come back to the same place in match 3 to get the fruit.

The usual colour of the fruit will be blue. These fruits will give you a good amount of loot and supplies. Once you get a golden fruit, which is very rare, you will get the AI Companion Groot from that fruit. We will be seeing a feature like this for the first time in PUBG Mobile.

New vehicle – Scorpion

In this version update, the main themed vehicle will be the Scorpion. It will be the first insect vehicle in the game. The top speed of this vehicle is 40 KM/H. Unlike other live vehicles, it will have multiple special features.

The Burrow feature is one of the best as it allows the rider to go deep into the earth and traverse underground. This feature also makes the players safe from the enemies’ firing. The scorpion vehicle also has a feature where you can shoot projectiles from its tail.

To summon the scorpion vehicle, you will have to collect the special scorpion horn item. Once you get it, just press the summon scorpion button to make the big green-colored insect appear in front of you. In my opinion, it is one of the most useful live vehicles in recent times.

New superpowers

In the 4.2 version update of PUBG Mobile, you can equip a special superpower in each match, just like ghostly powers in the 4.0 version update. As of now, we have experienced only two superpowers that allow the players to gain great advantages in fights.

Root Vision

With this superpower, you get an ability where you can transform into a root and transport your point of view to a different place without moving your character. It is like a hologram projection where we can see hidden enemies, loot, and other stuff in a different place or building. It has a cooldown time, so use it wisely to get the most out of it.

Butterfly fairy

Using this ability, your character will have a special wing on the back. You can fly, dash, and even attack your enemies using this superpower. It is great for travelling from one place to another. I personally found this ability very useful as you climb obstacles and buildings to get a sweet spot where you would be able to churn out lots of finishes. It is great for faster mobility as well.

New weapon – Overgrown Honey Badger

As you may already guess from the name, the Honey Badger is now possessed by the alien plant power. Now the weapon has special roots all over its body. The damage of the weapon has increased, and once the power bar gets full, you will be able to launch a special energy blast, which deals area damage. Overall, this new weapon may become a game-changer.

Classic mode enhancements

The PUBG Mobile 4.2 version update also brings several enhancements to the classic gameplay. However, currently, we have only one feature to share with you. Once the remaining phases of the beta version come, we will update it. Keep an eye on this space.

Co-op Ledge Grab

A brand new and one-of-a-kind feature is coming to the game with this version update. In this feature, you can put one foot on the palm of your teammate and climb up buildings or obstacles which were not climbable in the previous versions. The best part is that you can also pull up your teammates by grabbing their hands. This feature will surely add a new flavour to both classic mode and the Esports scenario.

Visual and Sound enhancements

The visual and sound effects in the 4.2 Beta have been upgraded to match the new features. The sound of roots, chirping of birds and insects, and character transformations contribute to a more immersive and intense gameplay experience.

However, as this is a beta release, some stages may still lack complete sound effects, which are expected to be refined in the final version. We will update this article once we get more information.
