Squad Busters May 2025 ‘1st Anniversary’ update brings Heroes, Squaddies, Piñata Events, and more

Squad Busters is bringing another mega update (yeah, spoilers if you haven’t watched the video yet) this May 2025 as they celebrate their 1st Anniversary. Available on the 13th of May, we’ll see a lot of new changes going into the matches as they have introduced Heroes and Squaddies, while having Pinata Events to reward us, so let me share all the details.

Squad Busters May 2025 update: New features and additions explained

Heroes are arriving

Remember, we all assumed it might be the end when they announced Archer Queen and Mortis are permanently removed? It was super shocking when two more names were announced. However, the surprise was, they all are coming back into the game as Heroes.

So, in Squad Busters, every match begins with your choice of hero. Each hero has a unique power you can aim and trigger in battle, plus a trait that passively boosts your team throughout the match. Powers have cooldowns, while traits are always active. You can pick two powers to begin.

On top of that, every hero has a turbo boost, letting your squad move faster. You’ll also find special dashes on certain heroes as well. Four heroes are available in this update: Barbarian King, Archer Queen, Royal King, and Mortis. A fifth hero has also been teased, although no details are available.

Again, all these four are of different playstyles: Fighter, Hotshot, Supplier, and Summoner, respectively. You’ll get your first hero for free, where you can choose between King or Queen. The other three can be unlocked with coins or special events. More details in the next section.

Squaddies join the Heroes

While Heroes are the backbone of your offense, Squaddies join the party as the secondary troop, or you can say backup for your heroes. They each bring their passive trait, and as you evolve them, their abilities and powers grow stronger.

Collecting duplicates allows you to merge squaddies into stronger forms, and now with this update, if you get two of the same squaddies in battle, they fuse automatically. A third one? That evolves them into a Mega Squaddie. Mega Units aren’t back, but Mega is somewhat still there

Squaddies will die if the Hero dies, so make sure to protect your heroes here. The evolution system for the squaddies is like this: Baby, Classic, Super, Ultra, and Ultimate. Just like heroes, they also belong to different playstyles.

Hero Journey System

Another separate menu addition is the hero journey system. This lets you upgrade your hero’s powers, traits, and turbo boosts using hero points, which you earn mainly through daily quests. Along the journey, you can also unlock skins, emotes, and new squaddies. All heroes will have a separate journey.
