Wild Rift Patch 2.5 Preview: New champions, Guilds, skins and more

One of the biggest updates in Wild Rift yet, Patch 2.5 Preview comes with exciting new features, champions, and a new addition to the map. It has been a year since League of Legends: Wild Rift was first launched in a regional open beta on Android and iOS devices. This had expanded Riot Games’ immensely popular MOBA title on mobile devices, gaining the attention of the League of Legends fans around the globe.

Wild Rift has offered fans a variety of new skins, challenges, events, and battle pass to enjoy throughout the last year. A lot has changed since then and in the latest patch preview, the developers will be showing fans what to expect in the future. The Patch Preview was released in a video on the 11th of October, 2021, announcing the arrival of the first minor update of Patch 2.5 on the 15th of October, 2021.

Wild Rift Patch 2.5 Preview: New champions

Three new champions are headed in Wild Rift straight from its PC counterpart, expanding the roster with the upcoming updates as stated in the Patch preview. Viegar, The Tiny Master of Evil will be added to the Rift on October 14 while Caitlyn and Jayce will be added later in November.

Veigar

The Tiny Master of Evil is a mage champion primarily played in the Mid Lane, but can also be played in the Dragon Lane as support. His wide range of abilities allows him to stun, root, and much more making him of the most versatile champions in the game.

Caitlyn

The Sheriff of Piltover is headed straight to Wild Rift to bring some law and order and send trolls back to their base. A high damage marksman, she is played in the Dragon Lane, but can also be played in Baron Lane for players looking for a bit of extra challenge. Caitlyn comes with a kit much similar to Jhin’s with traps and high damage shots.

The Defender of Tomorrow is possibly one of the most multidimensional champions in the game, which comes with an interesting weapon that can transform into both melees and ranged. He’s primarily played in Baron Lane, expanding the roster of Baron Lane champions. It is sure to give some of them a run for their money.

Guilds: A new big feature

The introduction of an all-new feature, Guilds is possibly the biggest change of the Wild Rift Patch 2.5 Preview. The Guild system will allow players to play with their friends and earn a variety of new rewards which are exclusive to Wild Rift. Players can create Guilds, once they have reached Level 9 and can then add their friends as members. A Guild can be purchased by heading to the Poro store and using either 400 Poro coins or 200 Wild Cores.

Once the Guild is purchased, players will be able to customize it with their choice of name, tags, icon and more. The name of the Guild will appear on the players’ banner on their profile along with their matchmaking banner and on the leaderboards.

The creator of the Guild will be called the Leader. This will enable him to appoint certain members as Officers allowing them to have access to certain features of the game, which normal members will not. This ensures a safe and healthy gaming environment for the members.

The purpose of the Guild system is to encourage more communication for players with each other and “to ensure the environment is friendly and welcoming”, according to Riot Games. Players in a Guild will be rewarded with extra blue notes and XP when playing with their fellow Guild members.

Weekly Guild battles

The most interesting feature of Guilds is the weekly Guild-vs-Guild battle. In this weekly event, players in each Guild will need to collect supplies throughout the week to secure victory. Supplies can be acquired by completing weekly missions and quests with players’ fellow Guild members. As part of the system, some players will be “Armed” and some will be “Unarmed”. In order for Unarmed players to be Armed, they will have to play alongside other Armed Guild members. The more Armed players in the Guild, the more supplies the Guild can acquire and thus more rewards at the end of the week.

Gameplay and matchmaking updates

Addition of a second Rift Herald

One of the most exciting new changes in the Patch 2.5 Preview is the addition of a second Rift Herald. The purpose of adding another Rift Herald is to draw attention to the Baron side of the map, encouraging more teamfights that aren’t based around the Dragons.

With the addition of a second Rift Herald, Baron Nashor’s initial spawn time will be delayed. Thus, the Baron will only appear after both the Rift Heralds have spawned but the respawn time will remain the same. A minor change to the Rift Herald is its ability to deal increased damage to turrets, along with taking extra damage when it hits a turret.

Improvements to matchmaking system

Due to many complaints from players regarding being matched with players who are not of their tier, the devs have worked on improving the matchmaking system in Patch 2.5. The new system will be based entirely on matchmaking rating, instead of ranks. This will sometimes enable low-rank players with a high rating to match with high-rank players, making it a more fair matchup overall. When low-ranked players get matched with high-ranked players, a new icon will be displayed on their loading screen card. This will indicate that they are playing at a skill level above their rank.

Other changes

Another minor change is the addition of the Scryer’s Bloom in ARAM which will spawn in the Howling Abyss allowing players to check bushes for hidden opponents. In addition, the share screens for skins will get a visual upgrade and a new feature introducing live streaming on Twitch will be added in the game.

Wild Pass

Players will be able to get their hands on a brand new pass featuring Hexplorer Tristana after the release of this pass’s Hexplorer Teemo. Riot Games has also changed the layout of rewards displayed for players to better understand the difference between the Basic Pass and the Premium Pass. In addition, players will be receiving more free rewards.
