Wild Rift Patch 2.6 Preview: New champions, items, new game mode and more

As the year is almost done, the Wild Rift’s last patch finally arrived to end it with a bang. As this will be the year’s final Patch Preview, the developers have come up with some extra special treats for the Wild Rift community. The list includes 2 brand new champions, new items and opportunities to earn rewards. There will be a few quality of life changes, skins and a brand-new game mode. In this Wild Rift Patch 2.6 Preview, there will be new champions, items, a brand-new game mode and more will be revealed.

The Patch Preview was released in a video on the 30th of November, 2021, announcing the arrival of the first minor update of Patch 2.6 on the 2nd and 3rd of November, 2021. This will be dependent on where the players live. Let us dive deeper into what is coming in the following Patch Preview!

Wild Rift Patch 2.6 Preview: New champions

In comparison to other Patch Previews, only 2 new champions will arrive at Wild Rift from its blueprint PC version. Although, there will be one familiar face who will get a complete “Make-over”. As stated in the Wild Rift Patch 2.6 Preview laid out, another sibling rivalry will make its debut in Wild Rift. This time around, it will be in the form of two sisters who fight for their own understanding of justice. The two champions of Morgana, The Fallen and Kayle, The Righteous will join the champions roster in their own “Path of Justice” event in this December.

Morgana, The Fallen

Morgana in Wild Rift

Morgana is a mage champion that is usually played as a support in the Dragon Lane. Although, she also can be flexed into the Mid Lane. Her abilities are all about rooting the enemies while inflecting them with the damage of her pain and suffering. This is done while protecting her allies from crowd control and magic damage.

Kayle, The Righteous

Unlike her sister, Kayle is a fighter champion solely played in Baron Lane. What separates Kayle from the rest of the Top Laner roster, is her abnormal scaling which transforms her from a weak and melee character to an AOE ranged hyper carry in the late game phase. Her ultimate grants her or another ally invulnerability, which can change the outcome of crucial team fights.

Dr. Mundo

As mentioned before, an old friend will receive a complete update on his gameplay and visual, also called a VGU, which turns out to be Dr Mundo. The reason behind his changes is to update his old style and gameplay, so he can shine between newer champions, while also keeping what made Dr Mundo unique. This is the first VGU, but definitely not the last, as stated in the Patch Preview.

New Items

The Patch Preview 2.6 will introduce 4 new items, among which 2 of them being Wild Rift exclusive items. In the following patch, mages and assassins will get 2 new shield items, helping their survivability more by neglecting the first crowd-control ability, which they will get attacked by. Both items function the same way, as they do in Wild Rift´s PC counterpart.

  • Banshee´s Veil: It not only give magic resistance to mages, but also will help them be safe from CC abilities, such as Evelynn´s Allure or Blitzcrank´s Hook.
  • Edge of Night: The assassin counterpart item grants magic penetration, while also blocking one magic damage attack. This will prevent assassins getting knocked up, rooted or stunned.

Besides these two types of champions, the 2 Wild Rift exclusive items are specifically made for the support role. Both items serve different purposes and will definitely give some variety in the itemisation aspect of the game which can get a little bland over time.

  • Hextech Megadrive: This reduces your active item cooldown when you heal or shield an ally champion or immobilise enemies. This item grants you the spamming ability on your boot enchantment, which means one can get more out of Locket or Redemption enchantment.
  • Ixtali Seedjar: This item resembles the work of gardening in a way. The item gives a champion health and ability haste with an unique effect. When the champion or an ally hit any nearby plant, it will drop a seed one can pick up and replant at any location. This includes Honeyfruits, Scryer´s Bloom and even Blast Cones.

Especially, the last item will open up a lot of new opportunities for plays and definitely will make itemisation fun again.

System Changes

Besides all the fresh and new things which will come with the upcoming Patch, the Wild Rift developers also wanted to address some old features and problems and even take them a step further.

Champ Select

Since previous Patch Previews, a lot has changed and especially a lot of champions have been added into the game. Therefore, this time around, the Wild Rift developers have decided to change the overall bans per match from previously 3 to 5 in total. Everyone on the team can now decide, which pesky champion they do not want to deal with anymore. The changes however will be rolling out region-by-region, based on how recently the game launched. This means if one does not see these changes after downloading the newest Patch, one should not be confused.

Intentional Losing Detection

The developers are aware of the high amount of frustration the player base has to endure in their game, through other players going AFK or intentional feeding of the opponents. Thus, the developers have decided to update their ways of handling these types of behaviour.

New player experience

Especially after Riot´s newest television series, Arcane, a lot of new players have arrived at the Rift. Some players also might have noticed that some of their friends have shown interest in Wild Rift after watching Arcane. For those players, the Wild Rift developers have updated their new mission track. This is themed around Jinx, on of the main characters of Arcane.

New Ranked Rewards

With all the system changes, the Wild Rift team have also decided to update their rank reward system, how the players can earn new and previous rewards.

Season Reward System

Similar to the Wild Pass, the players will gain Season Points for the ranked games they play. The System will also track the player’s performance in games. Upon that, it will be decided how many points and progress the players are granted.

Weekend Reward Series

To help players boost their season progress and give players a reason to play more, every weekend, players will have the chance to earn bonus progression, if games are won. The bonus program will end, if the players won 3 games or after 48 hours.

Ranked Rewards

“Glorious Orianna”: Season 4 Rank skin

“Glorious Orianna”: Season 4 Rank skin

Unlike other seasons, the seasonal skin, “Glorious skin” is only available through the Season Reward System. For players who have hit gold or above, they will receive a loading screen border for their Glorious skin. Additionally, a new type of currency has been added to Wild Rift called “Rank coins”. The coins can be spent in the new Ranked Store to acquire a bunch of accessories including Glorious skins from previous seasons. In the upcoming season 4, players will have the chance to get the “Glorious Tryndamere” skin from the first season . In season 5, the “Glorious Jinx” skin will make its way back to the Ranked Store. This seasons´s rank exclusive reward will be Glorious Orianna.

In this game mode, all champions will have unlimited mana and greatly-reduced ability cooldowns. Additionally, players can literally hop on the Wild Rift server through cannons. In total, it is a lot of chaos and fun. To celebrate the new game mode, it is accompanied with an event-design like a bingo card. For completing different missions, all centered around URF, one will receive a mark to put on your bingo card.
