Pokémon Champions: How to Get Mega Stones

Pokémon Champions

Mega Evolution is the headline gimmick in Pokémon Champions, and anyone who's spent time with Pokémon Legends: Z-A already knows how dramatically this mechanic can swing a battle. Your Pokémon transforms mid-fight into a more powerful form, with new stats, a new typing, or a new ability that can flip the momentum of a match in seconds.

Since Mega Evolution sits at the core of how battles play out in Pokémon Champions, you'll want to start collecting Mega Stones for your favorite Pokémon as early as possible. Here's everything you need to know about finding, equipping, and using them.

What Are Mega Stones?

Mega Stones are held items that let a specific Pokémon Mega Evolve in battle. Each stone is tied to one Pokémon species — Charizard needs Charizardite, Gengar needs Gengarite, and so on — so there's no universal stone that works across your whole team. You'll need to track down the exact stone for each Pokémon you want to power up.

How to Get Mega Stones

Get Mega Stones

There are three main ways to add Mega Stones to your collection in Pokémon Champions.

Complete the Mega Evolution Battle Tutorial. This is the easiest method to miss, but it's the only one that costs nothing. From the main menu, go to Train, then Battle Tutorials, then select Mega Evolution. Finishing this short training battle rewards you with a handful of Mega Stones for free, making it the first stop before you spend any currency.

Buy them from the Frontier Shop. Head to Shop, then Frontier Shop, and scroll to the Mega Stone section to see every stone currently available for purchase. Each one costs 2,000 VP, a currency you earn by battling and completing missions. Since some shop stones overlap with stones you can earn elsewhere for free, it's worth checking the tutorial and Battle Pass rewards first so you don't spend VP on something you could've gotten for nothing.

Claim them through the Season M-1 Battle Pass. The free track includes Dragoninite at no cost, while the Premium Battle Pass unlocks additional stones like Emboarite. If you're already planning to grab the Premium Pass for its other rewards, this is a nice bonus on top.

Transfer Pokémon from Pokémon Legends: Z-A. If you bring Chesnaught, Greninja, Delphox, or Floette over through Pokémon Home, you'll automatically receive their corresponding Mega Stone — Chesnaughtite, Greninjite, Delphoxite, or Floettite — sent straight to your in-game mailbox. If you already have these Pokémon from your time in Legends: Z-A, this is effectively a free stone.

How to Equip Mega Stones

Equip Mega Stone

Once you've got a Mega Stone, equipping it only takes a few steps:

  1. Open your Pokémon box and select the Pokémon in your box or party.
  2. Choose "Give an item to hold."
  3. Use the L or R button to cycle through the item categories until you reach the Mega Stone section.
  4. Select the correct Mega Stone for that Pokémon and confirm.

You'll see the Mega Stone icon next to your Pokémon in the team party menu once it's equipped, confirming it's ready to go. Keep in mind a Mega Stone takes up that Pokémon's held item slot, so it can't hold anything else while it's equipped.

How to Mega Evolve in Battle

Mega Evolve Your Pokemon

With your stone equipped, Mega Evolving is straightforward once you're in a match. On your turn, after selecting Fight, you'll see a prompt to press R to Mega Evolve. Hit R, and your Pokémon transforms immediately as part of that turn's move.

The catch: you can only Mega Evolve once per battle, even if multiple Pokémon on your team are holding Mega Stones. Once you trigger it, that transformation is locked in for the rest of the match — there's no reverting and no saving it for later. That single-use limit makes timing your Mega Evolution a real strategic decision rather than an automatic opening move, so think carefully about which matchup actually benefits most from the stat boost and typing shift before you commit.
